Alright. So, I think I've fully recovered from last Thursday when the worst possible thing happened to my team (hold on, let me punch myself in the nose one more time... there, that's better). We talked about it a little bit on the round table Saturday so I won't go into details. Oregon loses Dixon (and his Heisman Trophy hopes), and there goes the season. Oh well, it was fun while it lasted.
Anyway, it was a pretty good week for teams in red to upset top 10 competition. Not only did the Ducks lose to Wildcats, leading to a flood of red T-shirt sporting coeds rushing the field in the Arizona desert, but number 4 Oklahoma took a dive to the Texas Tech Red Raiders. I don't know what it all means, but it can't be good. My hope now is that Oregon can win its final two games (on the road against UCLA and at home versus the Beavs), and that Arizona State will lose one of its last two, so the Ducks can still go to the Rose Bowl. I would be happy with that, considering they were picked to finish in the middle of the Pac-10 and go to another Las Vegas Bowl this season.
The big news in college football this week, though, came today when Michigan coach Lloyd Carr announced his retirement. That means from now until January everyone and their brother will be wondering if LSU coach Les Miles (Michigan class of '76) will leave the Tigers to take over at the Big House next year. Right now Miles is keeping predictably mum on the topic, but it is adding one more wrinkle to this already crazy college football season.
I think if Miles wins a national championship he'll be more likely to stay in Baton Rouge. However, if the Tigers go to the title game and lose, he'll be inclined to take off for Michigan. Food for thought. What do you think? Maybe Michigan should hire Charlie Weis, then Oregon can beat them 49-0 next time they play.
